I know since earlier that Wizard always show Letter as default even if you move A4 to the top of the pagesize.txt file. Some years ago I believe it worked changing the order in the text file. But now I see it is still the same. Wizard will not choose the pagesize in the top of the file. Can anyone confirm it is still like this?

In the first pane of the Setup Wizard, you select your Document Style -- the document on which the new file is based. Either create new ones, or modify the existing files to be formatted to A4.

How to set up Finale to use A4 as the default page size for all my documents.

While Finale does not have a single setting that controls the default page size for all new documents, it is possible to edit the Document Style that you use most frequently when setting up new scores. Once you change the page size of the Document Style, any future files created with that Style use the new page size. The Document Styles that are installed with Finale are located in a hidden folder in your user account on your computer. To find and edit these files:

open Finale and choose File > open. Then hold down SHIFT+COMMAND+G. Type or copy and paste the following: ~/library/application support/makemusic
Navigate to Finale 201x/Music Files/Document Styles.
Select the file named "Engraved Style" (or whichever Document Style you wish to edit) and click open. A blank Finale file opens.
Choose Document > Page Format > Score.
Select the page size and click OK. (Note that the page size for the Finale file will not change right away.)
If you wish to adjust the page size for parts as well, choose Document > Page Format > Parts and repeat step 5.
Choose the Page Layout tool.
Choose Page Layout > Redefine Pages > Selected Pages of Selected Parts/Score.
From the Redefine pop-up menu, choose All Parts and Score and click OK.
Verify that the page size is correct. Then go to File > Save.
Close the file.
Now, when you create a new document with the Setup Wizard, choose the Document Style that you edited (you can make this selection on the first page of the Setup Wizard). Should you ever wish to restore your Document Styles to their default state, you can find a backup copy located at Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 201x /Music Files/Document Styles.

Interesting info, thanks!

Where I am based, A4 is the common page size, and so I only create Finale scores and parts on A4.
Given that I distribute my A4 pdfs to US, Europe, etc. quite frequently, should I be thinking more globally re: choice of page size? I am interested to know, for example, how folks in the USA deal with receiving A4 size PDF scores and parts....

Cheers,
Hector Pascal.

A4 is taller, but not as wide as Letter. US people have to print A4 onto their Letter-sized paper, so they get a 94% reduction in size and extra-wide margins.

If you send them printed A4 copies, then they have to put them on a taller bookshelf. :p

I never use Wizard and have my own templates so that is not a problem. But at the music school I work many teachers are not so experienced with Finale and they come to me time after time complaining about the page size. They are not aware of that they have chosen the wrong size. Some printers also refuse to print when there are no Letter sized paper to print. They have often used Wizard and not changed the size.

Thanks for your input. In my country it´s mostly A4 that are used, but some of my books my publisher wanted to have the size 2380x3266. They say that size is better for bookshelves and they want to sell not only to music stores but also book stores and libraries. That sounds strange but since they are paying so........

I did exactly as told above, but default is still letter. Looks like Finale is very buggy creature, nothing seems to work properly, shame.

Correction for my previous comment, I did not do it as told. I made changes for the right file, but in wrong folder, there are two application support folders and i chose the wrong one. My mistake, sorry for my previous comment, it was inappropriate.
