Anyone know a better way to do parts than creating two scores - one for conductor and one for parts?

- Is there a way to have cues and other markings to only show up in parts?

What application and version are you using? Are you familiar with linked parts?

As to cues only showing in parts, yes that is possible.

Thanks Bill - latest version

No idea how to have cues only show up in parts - can you point me in the right direction?

One common way is to put the cues in their own layer.  Use a staff style to suppress displaying that layer in the score, similar to "Blank Notation: Layer 4".

The only trouble with using that method is if you have two instruments per staff (flute 1 and 2 for example) using voicing rules to split their notes to their own parts, then cues get an order of magnitude more difficult. Also grace notes don't space correctly with voiced parts, so extraction (or a separate file for all parts) is the only answer.

Maybe there's an easier or quicker way, but since quite sometime all my templates use a second (duplicate) category named "cue-score" vs. "cue parts"

In this way I can position and show Cues etc independently using two different score lists assigned.

All I have to keep up with is to make sure I hit both shortcuts for both categories.

Categories are for expressions. Am I missing something here?

Well, I assumed the question was on cues , i.e. reherasal marks rather then cue-notes.

I believe cue notes is the subject.

For a number of reasons, I've also gotten into the habit of having one document for the score and one for the parts. One of these reasons was indeed the problem with cues. Putting them into the 4th layer and setting that layer not to show usually works (except for single staves with multiple parts which need to be exploded), although I've had problems with stray and unwanted clef changes showing up in the score. But worse: I've often experienced that certain formatting actions in parts altered score formatting. I'll format a score and then the parts. Afterwards when I view the score, the music spacing is all screwed up. Rather than risk the unexpected, I now prefer to to all formatting and part creation at the very end of the process so as to minimise any problems associated with unlinking two versions of the same document, and keep the score and parts in separate files.

I've never heard rehearsal marks referred to as cues, so I assumed cue notes was the question when I responded.  I realize the method I described will not work in all situations since it suppresses all notes in the given layer, something that may not be desirable for a particular situation.  I have seen the method of hiding cues described here in this forum many times before.

I've never found a good way to combine score and parts in one file, unless the staves only contain a single instrument i.e you are not using "voicing" to split notes between parts
