In other words, you have to know what you're looking for, and you don't know that until you poke around and discover it, yes?
The examples I gave didn't have a lot of music, but there are other passages where I can't do a brute force expression clear. Unless I'm missing something? Try this: Highlight the whole score. Copy everything. Clear Everything. Paste everything back in. Lock systems first, if that matters.

P.S.: I added "Copy Everything" into those instructions. "When all is said and done, more is said than done."

However, I discovered this - changing all the system Categories (Tempo Marks, Tempo Alterations, etc.) to a new score list - in this case Score List 2 - made all the phantoms display. Scary! I suppose I can work with this, at least. But I shudder to think what would happen if this went unnoticed.
I seem to vaguely recall corrupt Score Lists being an issue in the past on old files, like pre-2008 or so. But this was originated in 2014.5.

To achieve this, uncheck "use category positioning" and specify left-aligned with -46e for an additional horizontal offset. If you're going to uncheck "use category positioning", you might as well put it with the other dynamics.
The 46e is different from dynamic to dynamic, of course. The way to figure it out is to apply an unadorned dynamic to a note and the new, left-aligned adorned dynamic to the same note, zoom in, then nudge the new dynamic until the p or whatever is aligned with the unadorned one. Then right click, pick Edit Expression Assignment, and see what the horizontal offset is. Add that to the definition. (The press Backspace or Mac equivalent to clear the manual nudging.)
Elaine Gould even specifies that something like subito p have the p centered, unless it makes it ambiguous, in which case you'd write p subito instead (I'm not sure what I think of this last idea). Where horizontal space is wonky, I've previously used p (sub.). No need to spell the whole word out. woodwind specialist and doubler - Finale 2014d using Speedy Entry - no capslock, GPO 4 Full, Garritan Jazz & Big Band 3, Garritan Concert and Marching Band 2, Windows 10, 12GB RAM, frequently RTFM.
If the composer says in effect to the performer: "I do not care whether you perform my music or not," we cannot argue the matter. But if he indicates: "I want you to perform and respond to this music," then his fundamental duty is to write his music so that it is accessible to interpretation. When the performer cannot approach the composer's meaning because of capriciously obscure notation, he may in effect say to the composer: "Why should I bother to puzzle out your music?" - Gardner Read

Copying everything into it might work, but sometimes wonkiness gets copied too. I must have a pretty clean workflow, as these issues don't happen.
The fact the you inherited this from someone and then did your work on it might suggest the corruption was there when you got it. I avoid team-working on projects for this very reason, because very few people who claim to know how to use Finale properly actually do. I like to know how things are in the file. When I do it myself, I have no-one to blame but me, and I know pretty much exactly what I did.
