Please explain! Do you mean you can enter the chords, but the fretboards don't show?

Or, please tell us EXACTLY what you are doing, what you expect to see, and what you don't see.

Also, please add the program and version you are using to your signature, in the user control panel.

Thanks, I tried to add a signature, hopefully it worked -- I am using Finale 2014.5

I click on the Chord Tool. I double click when the arrow is pointing to correct beat and measure. I get the "Chord Definition" box to pop up. I enter my chord symbol and click "ok," but then the chord I entered does not appear.

What I've done to get the chords to appear is go to "Manuel Input" and do it that way. Sometimes those disappear too, but they come back. Maybe it's a bug in my program....

Maybe a setting in the file. Is this with all files? Can you post the file?

Here, I'm attaching the file -- now I'm having trouble with codas too. I went to Plug-Ins and Created a Coda System, but when I want to add measure to the coda part, it gets all funky and only puts one measure on a line! I'm new to codas and chords and lead sheets in general..... Thank you!!

1. The chords show fine for me. Maybe there is a particular measure in which you were having problems, but I see chords.

2. The one measure of the Coda is locked. One thing you can do is unlock it. Or, add measures, and then move them to the locked system.

Keg8h,

Here is a revised version of the Finale document you attached.

1) I was unable to reproduce your chord symbol problem.

2) The vertical distance from the staff down to the first lyric baseline is varying.
Why? I do not understand your idea with a such (varying) lyric layout.

3) The systems have inconsistent margins.
There are hardly two systems with the same margin values.
Why?
In my revised version I have given the systems more consistent margins.

4) Your problem with adding measures to the Coda may be due to the fact that the Coda’s first system was locked.
In my revised version I have unlocked the first system in the Coda.

Peter

The lyrics look funny because in the beginning, verses 1 and 2 are being used. Later on, it is 2 and 3. I'm guessing the lyrics were being typed into the score, and Keg8h didn't realize what was happening.

Sometimes chords do not immediately appear—they "white out" after you hit spacebar. Cmd-D (redraw screen) makes them appear. They ARE there, though. I generally ignore the minor display bug until I am finished entering, by which time the screen has probably redrawn itself because of scrolling.

Thank you so much! This is wonderful. I suspected it had something to do with locked measures, I just couldn't figure it out exactly -- thank you!

Yes, you are right, Zuill -- I was typing the lyrics into the score (I hate using the Lyrics window...) But the problem is, I don't know how to specify when something is the Chorus, or the C section. (Especially when part of the chorus starts on the last beat of the last verse part). So I just kept typing it in the wrong place. Do I need to type into the Lyrics window? Problem is, when I do that, it never shows up on the score (again maybe a "white out" problem....)

I was also wondering, this is just a cosmetic issue, but is there a way to lengthen the line above repeat measures? (To go over two measures instead of one.)

Thanks again for all your help! Amazing! I have learned so much.

Lyrics menu > Specify Current Lyric…
You can also use the pop up menu in the Lyrics window.

You do not need to type into the Lyrics window, but it can be a wise thing to do (as some Finale users have found out).
When you have entered the lyrics into the Lyrics window, it will not automatically show up on the score.
To make the lyrics show up on the score, use Click Assignment (look in the Lyrics menu).

I suppose that you mean the bracket over a {two measures} 1st ending, right?
And I suppose that you created the first ending via the Repeat menu command “Create First and Second Ending”, right?

Actually there are two “half-brackets”, one over the beginning of the ending (= the first measure), and another “half-bracket” over the end of the ending (= the second measure).
You can extend the length of the horizontal {bracket part} via its handle.

The two “half-brackets” overlap if the 1st ending is only one measure.
