hi all,

when I add a tempo expression, like crotchet = 120 using the expression tool, it wants to attach to the beginning of a bar, however I'd like it to take effect on, say beat 3. I can drag it there, but it remains tethered by its little umbilical cord to the beginning of a bar. Playback plays accordingly. Is it possible to effect the expression mid bar for playback / midi recording purposes?
Cheers,
Hector.

Never mind, I just discovered the answer. (Edit Expression Assignment, begin playback at position in measure)
Cheers,
HP.

I wonder what the difference is between "alignment point" and "position in measure" in the Edit Expression Assignment window?

Alignment points might be beats, for example. So, you might nudge an expression away from is alignment point. The dotted line shows where the alignment point is. The Assignment dialogue box gives even more information.

You could change the horizontal alignment point to "Left of Primary Notehead". Then re-enter it and it will be flush left of whatever beat you click above.

I often do what N. suggested when I need a mid-measure tempo change. Usually I leave the category intact (alignment to the beginning of the measure), make a copy of the individual tempo marking and then change its positioning setting to 'left of primary notehead'.

If you have parts, you probably also want to check the measure attribute "break a multimeasure rest" in that bar. The category attribute breaks before the measure, but you need the attribute to break after as well.
