Good afternoon everyone!

Today I’m pleased to announce that the new Finale is now available, both as a download and a USB drive. As I’ve hinted at over the last few months, some of the highlights of the new release include 64-bit support, additional Garritan sounds, transposed instrument entry, ReWire support, significant streamlining, and more.

We have also updated finalemusic.com. If you currently own Finale, please check out the what's new page to see what this upgrade offers you. If you want to give it a spin, the Free 30-Day Trial is ready to go.
The upgrade price is still just $149. Or, if you are using another pro-level notation product and want to own Finale too, our competitive upgrade is just $149 as well.

Nice! I've been waiting for 64-bit support!

Has there been done something to the limitations in voiced linked parts and the MIDI tool interface?

I have tried to install the Demo version. Sadly, my OSX is 10.9.5, and I couldn't install it. :(

Finale 25 can't open files musx correct. Program wants to select the .FAN file for the font "Maestro". All slurs for example are moved up..

Not trying to be rude, honest question. Does this mean finale will now work at a halfway reasonable speed on my $4000 Mac Pro? Because right now 2014.5 is a joke on this computer. It runs better on my coworkers $500 PC laptop. The Mac Pro has severe severe latency issues in pretty much all finale functions. Are you guys confident the new version will fix this issue before I drop $150 for another upgrade?

You might consider running a Windows VM on your Mac for Finale if the new version is no better.

The demo version is fully functional for 30 days, so you won't have to pay until you've had a chance to determine if it's to your satisfaction.

I've posted some benchmark speed tests here comparing Finale 2012, 2014, 2014.5, and 25 using my computer in the specs below. As they say, "YMMV."

Keep in mind that third-party plug-ins such as Jari Williamson’s JW Freeware Plug-ins, Robert Patterson’s Patterson Plug-in Collection, and Tobias Giesen’s TGTools won't yet work in Finale v.25, although 64-bit updates for all are promised.

Finale 25 seems to work well and there are quite a few improvements. I did have a problem after the initial installation after I tried to change the preferences and add files I need, like spacing libraries, templates, etc. My first mistake was doing everything in one go instead of carefully and incrementally. I also made the silly mistake of trying to install old plugins and corrected this after Finale started crashing on startup. I removed all those files but Finale wouldn't start. I even tried reinstalling Finale but that didn't help, either. As usual in cases like this, I tried deleting the preferences file but it took awhile to find it. Instead of being called 'Finale 2014.5 Preferences' (or equivalent), the file is now called 'com.makemusic.finale.fprf' which puts it quite a distance away from the older Finale preference files and makes it easy to miss it. After deleting this file, Finale started up again and I redid my preferences more carefully. I still don't understand why it didn't work after I removed the 32-bit plugins, but it might also have had to do with my choice of folders in Preferences/Folders.

Update: I have no idea why I got the startup crashes earlier. As a test I tried installing the old 32-bit plugins once again and there were no crashes. Finale just ignored them. Maybe my folder setup? One curious note on this last point: I made a desktop folder for Finale's temporary files, as I like to keep track of whether Finale's deleting is temp files properly (which it didn't do in the past). I made a folder on the desktop called Finale 25 temp and selected it in Preferences/Folders/Temp files, but Finale 25 has been ignoring it and the folder remains empty.

Now THAT is a convenient thing. The only way I can think of to make it better, would be if it also saved your current prefs file under a new name. Finalescript, anyone?

That's very handy, but only if you're able to open Finale in the first place. The only time I've had to reset the preferences was when Finale wouldn't start up at all. Kind of a Catch 22 thing...

I am excited to see what is new in V25.

I am a professional film orchestrator and I was holding on to Finale 2011 forever. Recently, I moved to 2012.

The biggest thing that would make my life easier would be to allow smart shapes to be copied from stave to stave, in the same way as the note assigned expressions can be copied. (ie. hold down option and hit the up or down arrow on your keyboard)

Is there any chance that smart shapes (particularly hairpins) can be done this way in a new version?

Being able to select a specific Pref file would be useful, too. One for the monitor in Landscape, one in Portrait position (pivoted) is a typical situation where this could help, rather than keeping various prefs files, renaming them and reinstalling them manually.
