Can any good friend remind me how to get
individual staff names on different optimised
systems? I used to know this and found it more
complicated than necessary and now I can't do it at
all any more, nor do I find it in the book.

I'm still on MacFin 2002.

Many thanks

If you have typed names in Staff Attributes and checked the Staff Name in Items to Display, you should be good to go. Try either removing optimization and then re-applying it, or just re apply it.

Dear Michael

Thanks a lot but your method didn't do what I
wanted, possibly I didn't make myself clear. So I got
back to the instructions I wrote for my own benefit
in 1999 which helped but the method has changed.
For the benefit of anyone who wants it (because I
still didn't find it in the manual), for a different name
on individual systems you have to do this:

1. click the optimised (lower) handle of the staff
desired

2. from the staff menu select 'Add group and
bracket', uncheck 'bracket for single staff'

3. click the button 'Abbreviated group name' and
type it

This name will only appear on the system you want.

There's a much easier way to put a staff name on specific systems: create a staff style for the name and apply where needed. You can create a metatool for the style to make things even faster.
