|As far as I know, there isn't an easy way to do that. When I need something like this, I change the first note to an eighth (select the note, tap OPT-4), and then use the mouse to click in an additional eighth note. Then, I tap the R key to turn it into a rest.|
Another way would be to set your Somple Entry cursor to "eighth note", and then click on the quarter, which will change it to an eighth. Then, click in another eighth, and change it to a rest, as above.
