I'm having a problem with EPS files exported from
Finale 2003 in Adobe InDesign 2.0. The Finale
fonts look right on the screen, but print out in Italic.
I'm running MacOS 10.2, and printing on a HP
printer at work; don't have the model number as
I'm home now. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Don McDonnell

Sorry, no help from me here other than to say, that
InDesgin has been little more than promising
shelfware here (private work, that is) since
version one - mostly due to font problems that
neither PainMaker, quark nor RagTime have.
Such a shame, because I'd really like a
dependable OSX DTP program.

try creating a pdf file...what you see in InDesign and
what you print might not always appear to be correct,
we have had recent problems with small caps.

You may want to upgrade InDesign to 2.0.1
Can't remember what was fixed
I routinely export eps from Finale but resave them
with Illustrator and don't have any PDF or printing
problems

You didn't mention if your fonts were embedded in the EPS file. This seems to cure a world of problems.

I do embed fonts. I don't save formatting, etc.
when importing into InDesign. That has worked
with my previous setup -- MacOS 9.2 with Finale
2002.

I confirm small caps problems, mine seem to be
related to tabbed text (credits with period leaders);
but that has zilch to do with Finale (I typeset
concert programs with it). Adobe InD 2 under OSX
is quirky: try setting up a large InDesign template
for a score and parts (via eps import) and see
what goes on with the interface.

If it's any interest out there, I tried using InDesign
1.5.2 under OS 9.2.2 (not classic mode [yecch]) to
create virtual scores and sets of parts within a
single document, using 4-6 page spreads for
each single part in score order. It *has* worked for
me lately, if no data corruption gets in the way.
Pages 'fly out of the printer' this way. I also used
QuicKeys to automate eps generation on a bunch
of open files, closing one after the other after each
export. It worked the first time I tried it. It's doable!
