I just loaded GPO and JABB and then installed Finale 2011. I can access the GPO instruments once I create a score, but so far I have only the MIDI instruments and the Instruments for Finale (and Tapspace Perc) when I use the Setup Wizard. This is a minor drawback, but is there a trick I can apply to allow me to choose from the full range of instruments installed in my system when I use the Setup Wizard?
(Yes, I rebooted the computer. smilewinkgrin )

I'm afraid I can offer nothing but my commiseration at this point, because I have had the same problem. The only reason I'm replying at this point is that I didn'tsee this problem with Finale 2009. I thought it was just me, but now that I know someone else is seeing the same problem, I'll try to investigate and figure it out.

In the meantime, if anyone else has any insights, I would love to know them as well.

Just skip the setup wizard, and make up a score the exactly way that you want it and save it as a template so that you can use it again and again. You can always include extra instrumentation that you might rarely use, and then just delete them from the score when you don't want them. Better yet set up several versions that you might use. Just save them with the .ftm extanion and write-protect the files when you are done.

What folder did you put "gpofull4instrument.txt" in?

Look up "GPO" in the Knowledge Base. It tells you specifically where to place the correct files in order to get your installed instruments to show in the Set-up Wizard.

woodwind specialist and doubler - Finale 2011! using Speedy Entry - no capslock, GPO 2nd ed. Full version, Garritan Jazz & Big Band, Garritan Concert and Marching Band, Windows Vista 32-bit SP1, 4GB RAM, Soundblaster Audigy II zs

If the composer says in effect to the performer: "I do not care whether you perform my music or not," we cannot argue the matter. But if he indicates: "I want you to perform and respond to this music," then his fundamental duty is to write his music so that it is accessible to interpretation. When the performer cannot approach the composer's meaning because of capriciously obscure notation, he may in effect say to the composer: "Why should I bother to puzzle out your music?" - Gardner Read

To Derrek and Chuck:

in Windows XP, you should copy the files <whatever-library-name-you-want-to-install>.txt to

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\MakeMusic\Finale 2011\VST Support

that directory should contain every .DLL for each of your libraries, as well as the .TXT files that the wizard uses to recognize them.

that is, if you installed everything in the default position.

That did the trick. I figured it was probably something like that.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

Taking your hint I finally found the gpofull4... text file and put it in the VST Support folder with good results. Thank you. But who publishes these files? I need one for JABB3, and the Garritan help site is a disaster.

I wrote to Finale Support, and they e-mailed me the files. So I am set.
