I just discovered that if you've installed an Adobe product like the free Reader or Acrobat, you already have the pro (open Type) version of the Minion font on your hard disk. Apparently the Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic of Minion Pro are included, along with Courier, Myriad, a symbol font and a couple of others. Thing is, they're packaged in a Resource folder so as not to be available to other applications. They can easily be found and installed in the system, though. On the Mac, one has to select Show Package Contents and then navigate through Contents/MacOS/Resource/Font.
