Trying to delete some rests and notes in layer 2 has caused multiple crashes.

I never use the eraser tool. I select a note, and hit the Delete key. Does that work correctly?

Is this in all files or only in one particular one (like the 75-page file with the redrawing problem on page 20)?

Mike, logically we ought to be able to use any of Finale's tools without having to create work-arounds. Of course, personal preference is another story. If I want to delete one note of a 5-note piano chord, the eraser tool arrow would seem to be easier to use. I haven't yet tried select and delete. Do you mean with the speedy entry tool? The selection tool will not (for me) select a single note of a chord. The problem seems to have something to do with the layer I'm in.

Vaughn, yes, it's the same file. But I haven't had time to try it on other files, which were not created with .xml.

Herman, I don't use Speedy. In simple, to delete a single note in a chord, I select the chord, and CMD+up or down arrow moves the selection to individual notes.

As you say, it's a matter of workflow and preference.

Thanks Mike. Just tried that. Cute, but on the occasions when the eraser works, it's a bit faster.

I have to agree with HSGNOTES: regardless of work flow prefs, the tools should work correctly. Using the erase tool also crashes my program.

No argument there; tools should work. I was only offering another method, until the problem is fixed.

Since I don 't get a crash, I might assume it is file specific or not a Windows issue.

I just checked the Eraser tool in my copy of 2014, and it works correctly. I was able to delete single notes, and notes that were part of a chord.

Would the people who are having problems be willing to post a misbehaving document?

As Mike has shown, this issue is not necessarily reproducible for others. Your correct range of assumptions is:

1. The tool was tested and the problem not observed.
2. The tool was tested, and the problem was observed, reported, and is now a known issue.

Note the O.P. said layer 2. I wonder if it's related to that.

I missed that in the original post, sorry. I just tried it again, with no problems. I was able to delete both single notes, or notes in a chord. I would still like to see documents from the people with the problem.
